Jackie Terry was chased onto the tracks by Metro security after a security guard alleged Terry “came at him” with a knife. Upon reviewing the LA Metro CCTV footage, investigators determined that the security guard’s account was false.
Terry jumped off the train platform to escape a physical altercation with the security guards, to avoid being charged with assault and related offenses or, opening the door to his being killed as a homeless man causing disturbance at a transit center (a Jordan Neeley killing). But, while running away from security, he was maced as he ran onto Aviation Blvd.
The LA police department who responded to the scene said Metro security guards were acting in performance of their duties when they maced Terry as he was fleeing from them, even if they have no legal reason to give chase. But the real issue is how traffic was stopped on Aviation Blvd. in both directions. Terry’s life was never in danger of being hit by traffic.
