Qur’aan and Sunnah

Innal hamdu lillaahi was salaatu was salaam alan Nabiyy, wal ba’du:

Drug use harms lives, property, wealth, and intellect. Homeless addicts cause disturbances with poor hygiene and panhandling. Neighborhood stores face petty theft. Society normalizes addiction by exposing children to "responsible" use. The Muslim ummah has yet to unite against drug addiction and related crimes that surround us. As a result, some Muslims suffer from addiction, leading to overdose, drug induced deaths and abandoning of prayer and family.

Allaahu Ta’aalaa says in the Qur’aan, Suwrah Ali Imraan:104:

Let there be a group among you who call others to goodness, encourage what is good, and forbid what is evil—it is they who will be successful.

And from the Sunnah:

On the authority of Abu Sa`eed al-Khudree (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, “Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.” Muslim

Enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil is an important Islamic responsibility. This was the task of the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them all), as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): Messengers as bearers of good news as well as of warning in order that mankind should have no plea against Allah after the (coming of) Messengers.  Suwrah an-Nisaa’i:165.

Allah has made the Muslim ummah the best nation ever raised up for mankind, in order to do this important task, as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):  You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma‘roof and forbid Al-Munkar and you believe in Allah. Suwrah Ali ‘Imraan:110

Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy on him) said:  The scholars have clearly stated that calling people to Allaahu Ta’aalaa is a communal obligation (fard kifaayah) with regard to the regions in which the callers live, for every region and area needs the da‘wah (call) and needs people who are active in this field. So it is a communal obligation; if sufficient numbers of people undertake it, the duty is waived from the others and for the others da‘wah becomes a confirmed Sunnah (Sunnah mu’akkadah) and a great righteous deed.

But if the people of a specific area or region do not undertake da‘wah, the burden of sin is incurred by all of them, and it becomes obligatory for all of them; each person must undertake to call people to Islam, according to his ability. However, generally speaking, with regard to every country, what is required is for there to be a group that is devoted to the mission of calling people to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, throughout the world, to convey the message of Allah and to explain the command of Allah by all possible means, because the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) sent out callers, and he sent letters to people and to kings and rulers, calling them to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted.” (Majmoo‘ Fataawa Ibn Baaz, 1/330 ).

CFS BlackBook was a wireless method that was used to communicate with men who spent money to commit zinaa with  people who are prostituting to support drug addiction. The men were asked questions that followed the method of the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) in the hadiyth of Abu Umamah who reported about a young man who asked the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) for permission to commit zinaa (Musnad Aḥmad 22211).

After realizing the main meaning of the hadiyth, that men should treat women how they would want their mothers and women in their families to be treated, the men we communicated with decided to stop meeting with the drug addicted for sex. This reduced the amount of money that went to drug use.

This is a form of da’wah because it is an invitation that invites non-Muslims to Qur’aan and Sunnah when they realize the relief connected to following the command “change it with your speech” when you see something wrong. The Prophet said (ﷺ):

“Religion is sincerity.” We said, “To whom?” He said, “To Allah and His Book, and His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk.” (Narrated by Muslim, 95). And Allaah knows best.

We ask that Allaah accept our effort as fulfilling the responsibility that this Ummah has to encourage the good and forbid the evil concerning the drug problem in this country. We ask that Allaah make CFS BlackBook a way to help the oppressed who are addicted; a way to help  some of our brothers by stopping them from oppressing;  and a way to help the people who make du’aa asking Allaah for help and protection from the evils that exist in their towns (Qur’aan 4:75). And we ask Allaah Ta’aalaa to make this a continuous reward (sadaqah jariyah) for every Muslim that contributes to help CFS BlackBook fulfill this Ummah’s responsibility. Amiyn

Oh Allaah, our Lord, give us good in this life and good in the next and protect us from the punishment of the fire. Amiyn
